The Women's Resource's 2019 Annual Spring Luncheon Celebrating #OutstandingWomen

April 17, 2019

In the spirit of Financial Literacy Month, over 600 business and community leaders gathered on Friday, April 12th, to raise over $300,000 for The Women’s Resource’s financial literacy programs. The funds make up 40% of the organization’s annual budget and will go directly to support the almost 3,000 women and girls they serve in the Greater Houston area every year.

The luncheon, which took place at the Westin Galleria, was chaired by top commercial real estate executive, Edna Meyer-Nelson, and featured keynote speaker Judy Smith, the inspiration for the hit TV show Scandal.

This year’s luncheon recognized Wells Fargo as the organization’s Corporate Honoree. Rosine Matthews, Senior Vice President and Early Talent Program Leader Middle Market Banking for Wells Fargo accepted the award and paid tribute to Volunteer of the Year, Jasmine Anderson.

The Women’s Resource also distributed the Outstanding Women in Banking and Finance Award to six of Houston’s top women in the field. The award recognizes the skills, savvy and expertise of women who have made considerable contributions to the fields of banking and finance, and is the only award of its kind in Houston. The Outstanding Women in Banking and Finance Award has been previously presented in 2009, 2014 and in 2017. This year’s honorees were chosen from a group of 42 nominees.

The 2019 Outstanding Women in Banking and Finance Recipients included:

Kimberly C. David, SVP and Chief Business Officer, Baylor College of Medicine

Ann Janssen, SVP and Chief Accounting Officer, EOG Resources, Inc.

Terry Morales, Executive Vice President of Corporate Banking, Amegy Bank

Lynn Nazareth, Chief Financial Officer, RES, LLC

Sandra Salazar, Managing Director, The PNC Financial Services Group, and

Valerie Toalson, Chief Financial Officer, Cadence Bancorporation and Cadence Bank

“We are honored to have such broad reaching community support for our programs,” said Christine Powell, Executive Director of The Women’s Resource. “Thanks to the funds raised by this luncheon, we will be able to continue to grow our programs and put more women in our community on a path toward economic security and success.”
